Of Geums and Forget-me-nots

Welcome to Beyond the Garden Gate...just a little peek behind the scenes.

I wish I had a photo of the nearly dead Geum plants I brought home last July, but I don't. I do, however, have a recent photo of the flowers they've become. It makes me smile every time I walk by them. And they'll stay blooming through the summer, so I'll constantly be reminded not to give up on even the most unlikely situation.

This little bouquet I gathered in the rain became the inspiration for this month's print:

The Painting:

A little bit of time-lapse and a little bit of real time.

The Farm:

The farm is pretty shaggy and out of control right now...aside from a few blooming things (like the Geums above). I have a massive (and thriving) population of thistles everywhere. It's a bit daunting.

I also have some dahlias popping up that I somehow missed when I dug them up last fall. The recently planted tubers aren't far behind, but it was a fun surprise to see some forgotten dahlias getting a head start.

I know it's not a flower, but I'll leave you with the jalapeño pepper plant that is entering its third summer here on the farm...it's lived its entire life in the greenhouse. I didn't know it would winter over, but here it is, looking back at me from eye-level. It's been super prolific its whole life. Just another happy accident that it didn't get pulled from its pot at the end of the season (two summers ago), and is still living a happy life, cranking out peppers for all to enjoy.
