Lilacs (and Grandma)

The second edition of 'Beyond the Garden Gate'...

Lilacs are some of my favorite flowers. Their scent sends me straight back to Grandma's house.

My Lilac Inspiration

These are lilacs growing in the backyard that I got as sucker starts when they were moving my grandma out of her house, into assisted living. They might not be much to look at, but I love them just the same.

I'm not sure what any of these lilacs are called, but the one on the left (that's just starting to bloom) is a double, which is beautiful. However, the one on the right, just your average lilac, is the one that reminds me of my grandma. I wish their season lasted longer and their scent stayed forever.

More about Lilacs:

If you're interested in lilacs, Floret Farm has an extensive collection of lilacs, as well as a whole flower library with lilacs in it. They take the most breathtaking photos of all kinds of flowers, so even if lilacs aren't your thing, looking through their website will inspire you. Check out the lilac farm tour at Floret here, and their Floret Flower Library here.

If you're interested in buying (or just strolling through) lilacs, make a trip to Woodland, WA to Hulga Klager Lilac Garden. They're only open until Mother's Day, but it's worth the trip. Thankfully, it's only about an hour away from where I live.

The Painting:

I mixed a bit of it up this month - this is part time-lapse and part painting in real time.

The Farm:

My most exciting spring bloom has faded, but I took the photo to show you. I'm in LOVE with these tulips - they look so much like peonies to me. I got them last fall at Eden Brothers, and they're called Pink Mist tulips, in case you need to add them to your garden (I'm definitely going to be getting many more this fall!)

Connection:

In case you want to connect outside of Petals in Post, you can find me over at Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest. I'd love for you to swing by and say hi if you're on any of those platforms!

Also, if you'd like to sign up for my mailing list to receive mail in your inbox (not mailbox this time), I send out email once a week on Thursday. Join here.

If you'd like to explore my website, it's here: Tending Wild Studio.

Comments:

Please leave a comment below and introduce yourself, ask a question, tell a story...anything you want...but please remember the comment won't show up immediately (so you didn't do anything wrong and you don't have to start over). I'll check back regularly to get the comments posted and keep the spam bots out.

Thanks for hanging out with me. See you next month!
